A.J. Martini has been awarded a project to renovate and restore the exterior historic Pearson Hall at Phillips Academy Andover. Pearson Hall, the second oldest building on campus, will be in very good hands.

Martini/CBT awarded new residence hall at Dean College

Martini is proud to announce that A.J. Martini, Inc. and CBT Architects has been awarded a project for a new residence hall at Dean College as a design-build team. Dean is a private residential college located on 100 acres in Franklin, MA. The new building will house 120 students and 1 resident director and is due to be completed in
July 2013.

A.J. Martini was honored several times at the ABC 2011 Excellence in Construction Awards event celebrated at the World Trade Center on November 18. The firm received awards for team performance and construction excellence for three projects; the Wold Science and Engineering Center at Union College, the Cancer Center at Winchester Hospital and Freeport Village in Freeport, ME. The Union College and Winchester Hospital projects were also recognized for excellence in sustainability with a Green Building Award.

AGC Volunteer Day at Rosie's Place

AGC Volunteer Day at Rosie's Place in Boston

Recently volunteers from the AGC worked together to makeover spaces at Rosie’s Place in Boston. A.J. Martini, Inc. was one of 44 companies to volunteer their time, talent and treasure.

Ben McConchie, Chairman of the Young Contractors Council at the AGC and A.J. Martini employee, served on the planning committee with Lisa Wexler, John Lauring and Danielle Arciero. Deborah Chang of Perrotti Chang Design, LLC provided design services for the event.

A.J. Martini staff joined hundreds of participants on September 10, 2011 for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at The Josiah Willard Hayden Recreation Centre in Lexington. The Ribbon Cutting unveiled the recently completed renovation to the Centre’s athletic facility. The Hayden Centre’s board of directors, Lexington town officials, a cross section of local town residents, project architect Chris Sgarzi, as well as several members of Team Martini were in attendance.

A.J. Martini working with Chris Sgarzi Architects completed a significant upgrade to the athletic facility’s common areas and locker rooms. The renovation which left virtually no surface untouched was completed in record time to meet their fall program of activities.

The Hayden Recreation Centre is a privately endowed non-profit corporation that provides a wide range of recreational, athletic, and social activities for the youth of Lexington as well adult classes. The Centre has two facilities; the recently renovated building that houses a swimming pool, gymnasium, weight training room, auditorium, ten activity rooms and a large athletic field. The second is the John P. Chase Skating Facility, previously renovated by A.J. Martini.

Wold Science and Engineering Center The completion of the Wold Science and Engineering Center project gives us the proud distinction of having restored the school’s oldest and most unique building on campus, the Nott Memorial, as well as having constructed the newest, most technologically advanced facility on campus. The 40,000 square foot Science and Engineering Center has quickly become a huge draw on campus with great study and meeting spaces in addition to the state-of-the-art, high-tech classrooms and labs.

IBEX Outdoor Clothing

A.J. Martini, Inc. in conjunction with db2 Architects, completed a retail fit-up on Newbury Street, Boston, MA for IBEX. IBEX is a manufacturer and retailer of outdoor clothing specializing in performance clothing made from eco-friendly, organic and sustainable materials. In keeping with the sustainable theme, reclaimed barnwood was utilized in the project.

The fast tracked project was completed in just 8 weeks with a 4 week construction period.

May 2010 Martini's Open House Celebration Draws Nearly 300 Guests A.J. Martini, Inc. of Winchester, MA recently welcomed over 300 guests at an Open House to celebrate the completion of their office renovations. Guests at the event included an impressive turnout of representatives from across the architecture/engineering/construction (A/E/C) industry as well as alumni employees, neighboring businesses and friends of the firm. Martini’s corporate headquarters is home to 22 guest architects, engineers and small business owners who also attended the event. Attendees enjoyed dry Martinis and hot dogs. Hit by the March floods, Martini’s corporate offices were inundated with 22” of flood water. The 6-week renovation included replacing office drywall, work stations, flooring and office equipment. The kitchen was also damaged beyond repair and replaced. The floor plan for the Silver LEED certified office space as originally designed by CBT/Childs Bertman Tseckares Architects remains unchanged but the entire space received a fresh look. Taking advantage of the opportunity provided by the untimely flood, the company elected to update the finishes and decor with design consulting by Deanne McGuiness Interiors. The 20,000 square foot renovation was completed in record time thanks to the incredible response and support from Martini’s subcontractors.

Phil Balboni, senior project manager, was a guest lecturer at the Professional Practice class for Interior Design at Wentworth Institute of Techology on July 14. Phil, a graduate of Wentworth Institute, took the class of seniors through a typical day on the construction site emphasizing the importance of strong relationships, good communication between team members and the value of each team member's role.

Herb Fremin, coordinator at Wentworth Institute for the Interior Design program, felt that it was valuable to have an alumni of the school participate as the guest lecturer. Herb complimented Phil, "Your status as a Wentworth graduate also is significant in illustrating the value of the Institute's academic programs. Your success is indicative that they too can achieve their professional goals".

Phil Balboni has a long history with the Institute. Not only is Phil a graduate, but his mother was also a graduate and both his father and grandfather were professors at Wentworth. Perhaps the school will build a wing in their honor!
